For more than eight years "Sol" has been a player in the Northwest music scene. Since the 2009 release of his first full-length album, The Ride, Sol has digitally released two free EPs (Dear Friends, Vol. I & II), garnered airplay on nationally syndicated radio, and has been the recipient of both regional and national press.
Solâs signature sound maintains a marriage between the core values of hip-hop and the mainstream sensibility of pop(ular) music. Sol says that he grew up on a combination of 90âs rap music (Outkast and De La Soul), while his parent's favorites Prince and Marvin Gaye played in the background.
Recent notable performances include; the 2010 annual CougFest at Washington State University, attended by more than 4,000 people; the 2009 Annual Capitol Hill Block Party, and the Northwest Folklife Music Festival. Sol organized and performed at a sold out "Haiti Relief Show" at Neumos in Seattle, raising more than $7,000 for his maternal homeland. In 2010 Sol got 2nd place in the Experience Music Project 2009 Sound Off! Northwest 21 & under battle of the bands.
Sol enjoys airplay on Clear Channelâs KUBE 93.3, KEXP 90.3, and college radio. Solâs most recent EP (Dear Friends, Vol. II) reached the KEXP hip hop top 10. In October, Solâs song "So Damn High" climbed the charts on New York based blog tracking website Hype Machine, reaching #1 above the likes of Kanye West, DeadMau5, and Kings of Leon. Sol's music has been posted on national blogs, and both of his free EPs have received more than 10,000 downloads. Sol's music has merited a full spread story in the Seattle Weekly, and articles in The Seattle Times, The Stranger, and college newspapers. Sol has shared the stage with artists such as; the Wu-Tang Clan, Zion-I, both RZA and GZA (of Wu-Tang), Mistah F.A.B., Blue Scholars, Big Sean, Macklemore, Andre Nickatina, Mac Miller and The Pack.
Already dubbed "Seattleâs Prince", the 22 year old is currently in the studio recording his second full-length album. With his new album, Sol has found his own avenue both musically and spiritually, making music unlike any Seattle artist before him. Sol has been publicly praised as one of the Northwestâs most promising new acts and possibly the guy from Seattle who will make a great impact on music. "The new sound I am making is the kind of music I have wanted to be able to make my whole life. I feel ready."
